Volunteer

We welcome volunteers and have met some really wonderful people.  Through them we have recently been able to test and use organic measures to combat “Mummy Berry”, which is a spore that attacks blueberry plants. This spore caused a local farm to loose its entire crop of blueberries in 2015.  The only way our research found to combat Mummy Berry was to spray the plants with chemicals, which is against organic practices and not an option.

This has not been a project that one or two people could have accomplished.  For this to work, it required applying the organic method to all the blueberry plants in the test area and not just a few, which is about 300 plants. To do only some of the plants would have been pointless because spores can float from one area to the next if even in relatively close proximity.  Happily, we’ve proven this method to work.  Thanks to the help of volunteers who were not afraid of some real work.  Volunteer work is fulfilling when you believe in the cause you are helping. Volunteers work for free, but at the same time are priceless.
